Recovering debt

Medicare benefits can sometimes be paid incorrectly or obtained fraudulently. When this occurs, the person or entity who obtained the benefit is generally liable to repay the debt. This could be:

  • patients
  • Doctors
  • Medical Practices
  • Compensation companies
  • Private Health Insurance companies

Creating invoices

Medicare program debts are created in SAP Finance. Customers receive invoices with an overpayment letter explaining the debt.

Dunning

Dunning is the process of automatically issuing a series of overdue account reminder notices. See Dunning for Medicare debt for more information.

Types of financial adjustment

Transactions in SAP may require financial adjustments. There are several types of financial adjustments:

  • Debt write off
  • Refund
  • Funds transfer
  • Invoice reversal
