FTB or SBP claim

Where a claim is deemed 'Not Effective' because a claim has already been made:

  • The option in the Q999 to select the Act reference should be entered as Null/Other = 2 followed by N=7, as the options presented are not suitable
  • Text should be included in a free text paragraph to detail why the claim has been made not effective
  • The following text must also be included in the Q999 in these cases:

'This decision has been made under A New Tax System (Family Assistance) (Administration) Act 1999'

FTB current customer

FTB current customer (for add child only, where customer remains FTB current).

'Thank you for your claim for Family Tax Benefit for (child's name). Unfortunately, your claim for (child's name) cannot be assessed because Services Australia did not receive all the information or documentation required to make a decision about this claim. This decision does not affect the rate of Family Tax Benefit for your other children.

If you would like to continue with your claim for (child's name), please provide the information as requested or contact us to discuss more options.'

FTB not current

'Services Australia cannot pay you Family Tax Benefit for (child/ren's name) because we did not receive all the information or documentation required to make a decision about your claim.

To receive your Family Tax Benefit entitlement for (child/ren) you will need to contact us by 30 June 20XX (insert relevant financial year). You may need to make a new claim to have your entitlement assessed.'

Customer already claimed or received FTB for the same period

'Thank you for your claim for Family Tax Benefit for (child/ren's name). Unfortunately your claim for (child/ren's name) cannot be assessed as you have already claimed or received Family Tax Benefit for them for the same period.

If you would like to discuss this further, please contact Services Australia.'

SBP

'Services Australia cannot pay your Stillborn Baby Payment for (child's name) because we did not receive all the information or documentation needed to make a decision about your claim.

To receive Stillborn Baby Payment for (child) you will need to contact us within 52 weeks of your (child's birth/entry into care) and you may need to make a new claim.'

FTB claim lodged outside early claim period

'We are writing to you about your Family Tax Benefit claim. We cannot assess the claim for your child because your claim was lodged more than 3 months before your child is expected to <to be born/come into your care>.

To be paid Family Tax Benefit, you will need to make a new claim within 3 months of the date your child is expected <to be born/come into your care>.'
