Description

1

Can the pirfenidone 801mg strength be approved for an initial application?

No. Only the 267mg strength can be approved for an initial request as dose titration is required for this medication. Once the 267mg has been approved, the 801mg strength can be approved as continuing treatment.

There is no minimum timeframe between the 267mg and 801mg approval.

Any 'too soon' request for change of strength can be overridden in OPA.

2

Will a change of medication request reject in OPA for being 'too soon'?

A change request may reject as 'too soon' because both medications are in the same treatment group in OPA. However, this can be overridden.
