Medical conditions, codes and terminology 008-07030000
This document outlines information about medical conditions and codes, including common acronyms and terminology used by medical practitioners.
Purpose
This information is used by Services Australia to identify medical conditions or disabilities and to assist with assessing payment eligibility.
Medical codes
Each medical condition has a unique code that is used when recording a customer's medical details on their Centrelink record.
Medical codes are used for recording information about a customer's medical conditions. There is one set of valid medical codes for all Centrelink payments (Disability Support Pension (DSP), Carer Payment (CP), Carer Allowance (CA) etc.). They are also used in the online diary for customers who need a primary medical condition to be included with a Job Capacity Assessment (JCA) referral. Service Officers need to know the primary medical condition for all JCA referrals.
Common medical conditions
The Resources page has a description of common medical conditions and possible treatment options that may be used when deciding about whether a customer is eligible for payment. Information is included about issues with particular medical conditions.
The Resources page contains links to medical information websites, medical condition classifications, medical abbreviations, symbols, prefixes and suffixes and common medical conditions.
