This document explains how to help manage enquiries from individuals and the media about Share by Default.

Step	Action
1	Determine what the caller is asking about If the caller is: a journalist (Media enquiry) and requests details about Share by Default, go to Step 2 asking about who can see their information, tell them there is no change to the existing consumer privacy and access controls. See Privacy and access for My Health Record asking about how they can register for a My Health Record, see My Health Record for individuals asking about Share by Default and/or what it means for them, go to Step 3
2	Journalist requests details about Share by Default If a journalist requests details about Share by Default: Do not make comment or answer questions from the media See Table 7 in Serious incidents and Tier 3 escalations for My Health Record
3	Individual is asking about Share by Default Tell the individual: A bill amending the My Health Records Act 2012 has been passed by the Australian Parliament. From 1 July 2026, healthcare providers will be required to upload key health information to the My Health Record system by default, starting with pathology and diagnostic imaging reports.
