This document explains the Medicare Safety Net (MSN) thresholds for families and individuals. This includes details about how thresholds are reached and the benefits that apply.
Access CDMS to check the MSN threshold

Select the Amend Consumer Details link on the CDMS homepage

Select Medicare Safety Net from the Program dropdown menu.

Key one of the following identifiers from the ID Number dropdown:

Medicare Card number

Consumer ID

Medicare Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Family ID of the family

Select:

the appropriate ID Number Type from the dropdown menu

Safety Net Year from the dropdown menu

Entitlement

The Medicare Safety Net Amendment Search page will show

If a Medicare card number was entered it will show all members of that card, select:

If the:

Consumer ID or PIN number of the customer is entered, go to Step 4

Family ID is entered the Medicare Safety Net Details page will show, go to Step 5

Family Threshold Details table shows:

Safety Net Type - MSN and EMSN
-
Threshold Type - General, Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part (A) or Concessional

Unverified Amount Total – the families total unverified amount accumulated towards the threshold
-
Verified Amount Total - the families total verified amount accumulated towards the threshold
-
Threshold - the dollar amount for the calendar year selected
-
Threshold Status - Reached or Not Reached

Select the customer on the small arrow to the left hand side of the screen. The following will show the individual family member's:

Safety Net Type - MSN and EMSN
-
Threshold Type - General, or FTB Part A or Concessional
-
Start Date - if the customer is concessional, this will show their start date for the EMSN Concessional threshold

Unverified Amount - total unverified accumulated amounts
-
Verified Amount - total verified accumulated amounts
Note: CDMS shows the term MSN for OMSN.

The Amend Medicare Safety Net Details page will show and defaults to the Threshold Details tab.

Under Individual Threshold Details, select the small arrow to the left hand side of the screen. The following will show the customer's:

Safety Net Type - MSN and EMSN
-
Threshold Type - General or Concessional
-
Start Date - if the customer is concessional this will show their start date for the EMSN Concessional threshold

Unverified Amount - total unverified accumulated amounts
-
Verified Amount - total verified accumulated amounts
If a customer is not registered as an MSN family member, the FTB Part A threshold will not show as this only applies to registered MSN families.
Note: CDMS displays MSN for OMSN.
