DPID matching for Medicare enrolments 011-44100010
This document outlines Delivery Point Identifier (DPID) matching for Medicare enrolments.
Medicare address and DPID
When a new or existing enrolment address is added or updated, it is compared against addresses on the Postal Address File (PAF) provided by Australia Post.
If there is a match:
- a Delivery Point Identifier (DPID) is allocated
- an individual barcode (related to that DPID) is made available for printing on correspondence
This software is on Services Australia’s systems to:
- create savings in postage to the agency
- increase data integrity
- enhance customer service by using the recognised addresses from Australia Post
Staff should make every attempt to make sure a DPID is allocated.
Adding or update address to match DPID

PaNDA

In person, phone or Service Centre
- Tell the customer their Services Australia address should be updated to match Australia Post’s
- Say what the DPID address is
- Ask if the DPID address is their address
- If there is:
- a match, process ends here
- no match, and the customer:
- objects to using the DPID address, go to Customer objects to DPID address
- does not object, select Accept. Record is updated with the DPID address. Process ends here
Customer objects to DPID address
- Select Continue/Change to override the DPID. System continues with the address entered
- Update the record with customer’s preferred address
- Add 'Customer objected to using DPID' on:
- CDMS Group Comments if mailing address is updated in Group, or
- CDMS Personal Comments if address is only updated in Personal
- Process ends here
Claim processing - Mainframe DPID error message Error 6-NO DPID or 6-CHK ADDR
If message 6-NO DPID shows and the address is correct, override the address in Mainframe for a:
- permanent address change with A indicator, or
- temporary address change with B indicator
The 6-CHK ADDR message continues to show when an address is keyed in a non-standard format. An address in a standard format has a greater chance of finding a matching address on PAF and, therefore, of allocating a DPID.
