The tables below show the pre and post claim codes used for assessing a PPL claim as NEF (not effective), REJ (rejected) or CAN (cancellation).

Explanation of reason code fields used on this page
Table 1: this table describes information on the correct code to use when cancelling, rejecting or making a claim for PPL not effective.
Item |
Description |
1 |
Valid action codes
Manual cancellation of PPL should not be undertaken when a customer advises of a change in circumstances. The change in circumstances for PPL must be updated on the customer record.
Process Direct
The PPL Claim Action (P1CA) screen allows the user to manually update the status to NEF, REJ or CAN.
|
2 |
Not effective/Rejection
A PPL status of NEF or REJ cannot be reassessed using a REA activity on the P1CA. However, if all information is provided, claims can be reassessed by re-indexing them using an NCL activity type. A customer does not need to lodge a new claim if certain circumstances are met, e.g. if all requested information has been provided.
See Not effective, rejection or withdrawal of claim for Parental Leave Pay (PPL).
For specific day level rejection codes and descriptions, see the Resources page of Claiming and managing Paid Parental Leave (PPL) days for children born or entering care on or after 1 July 2023.
|
3 |
Restoration
A PPL restoration can only be actioned if the PPL claim is cancelled with a restorable reason.
Where a customer’s PPL claim is Cancelled 'EOP - End of Payment' (CAN-EOP) and the customer advises they weren’t eligible for a previously paid PPL day/s (for example the customer worked on the nominated day) the claim can be reopened and reassessed.
Note: only selected staff have access to reopen these claims.
|
4 |
Level
Claim - status applies to PPL claim
Period - status applies to a block of consecutive PPL days
Day - individual PPL day level status
Note: the manual coding of levels is not required on the P1CA screen. Coding will be automatic and will not display.
|
5 |
Legend
Manual - reasons that can be manually input via the PPL Claim Action (P1CA) screen
Auto - automatically occurring reasons (cannot be keyed manually)
Open (OPN) - further updates can be made to the claim, including changes to the customer’s claimed and unclaimed PPL days
Closed (CLO) - claim is closed as the customer is no longer eligible for PPL. Further updates can only be made for an acceptable reason. For example, PPL may be restored when cancelled with a restorable reason such as EOP, CRQ or OTH.
