This document outlines the eligibility criteria for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) Pensioner Education Supplement (PES).

Eligibility

To qualify for AIC PES, the student and applicant must:

The student must also:

  • be undertaking approved study at a primary or equivalent ungraded level
  • be receiving Disability Support Pension (DSP) or Parenting Payment Single (PPS), and
  • qualify for either Boarding Allowance (BA), Second Home Allowance (SHA) or Distance Education Allowance (DED) if they were not receiving a pension

Claiming

AIC PES is automatically calculated and paid as part of a customer's new claim for AIC.

To claim AIC, applicants can submit a Claim for Assistance for Isolated Children (SY040) form.

Rate

The rate of entitlement to AIC PES can be found of the Rates and Thresholds index.

Payment

AIC PES is not taxable, it is not means-tested, and entitlement is not affected by study load.

Payments are delivered at the same frequency the applicable AIC allowance would be paid if they were not receiving a pension.
