Homeland Learning Centre (HLC)

If a student is attending an HLC, use specific coding to identify:

  • the HLC the student attends, and
  • the nearest appropriate state school

On the Education Course Details (EDC) screen:

  • Institution: key the HLC, see Table 2
  • Comments: key the name of the HLC the student is attending

On the EIC Isolation Details (EIID) screen:

  • Nearest Approp Govt school: key the Hub school. This is considered the nearest appropriate state school
  • Distances: key '56' (km) for HLC students. This is used to distinguish HLC students because students attending an HLC are considered isolated

Example:

Arlparra School (Utopia)

Hub school code is 86040

HLCs are all coded as 83934:

  • Apungalindum
  • Clinic
  • Irrultja
  • Iyngiynyala (Soapy Bore)

If the student is attending Irrultja HLC (outstation), that is administered by and attached to Arlparra (Hub) School, code the following:

  • EDC screen:
    • Institution: 83934 (HLC)
    • Comments: Irrultja HLC
  • EIID screen:
    • Nearest Approp Govt school: 86040 (Hub)
    • Distance from Home to the Nearest Approp Govt School: 56
    • Distance from Home to School Attended: 56

Gap in entitlement

Arek was enrolled with QLD Home Education Unit (HEU) in Term 1 and 2. Arek withdrew from QLD HEU and commenced with a distance education provider in Term 3.

Term 2 end date: 27 June

Term 3 start date: 14 July

Scenario 1:

Arek withdrew with from QLD HEU on 27 June and was enrolled with the distance education provider on 14 July.

As Arek:

  • withdrew at the end of the term, the entitlement end date is the end of the instalment period 30 June
  • commenced within 14 days of Term 3, the entitlement start date is the beginning of the instalment period 1 July

As there is no gap between these 2 dates, there is no gap in entitlement.

Scenario 2:

Arek withdrew from QLD HEU on 25 June and was enrolled with the distance education provider on 14 July.

As Arek:

  • withdrew before the term end date, the entitlement end date is 25 June
  • commenced within 14 days of Term 3, the entitlement start date is the beginning of the instalment period 1 July

As the end and start date do not align, there is a gap in entitlement.

All

Individual HLCs may open/close without notice depending on weather, number of students attending, presence of a teacher. They may also close if there are no families with school age students living in that community.

Find institution codes for the hub school or HLC in the following places in:

  • Customer First:
    • Web link next to the Institution field on the Education Course Details (EDC) screen
    • Via the Education Institution Summary (EIS) screen
  • Process Direct:
    • Search for Institution link on the Updating study details screen in the Staff Process Claim workflow

Note: search using the hub school name.

When in doubt, check with the hub school or Service Support Officer before paying AIC.
