Study updates and coding for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) students 010-25081415

This document explains how to code study details for AIC students.

Change of circumstances

As well as the common notifiable events, students undertaking study must tell Services Australia if any of the following events happen, or are likely to happen:

  • starting or discontinuing a full-time course of study
  • not enrolling in a course as a continuing student by the end of the enrolment period
  • not beginning in the course on the first day it is offered
  • changing enrolment in the course

Incapacitated students

When a student becomes incapacitated, but is still considered to be a full-time student by their education provider, the student remains eligible for AIC.

Unfavourable decisions

When making an unfavourable decision, speak to the applicant:

  • explain the decision
  • give them a chance to provide more information or evidence
  • advise their review and appeal rights. Record an application for a formal review of the decision if required

Make 2 genuine attempts to contact the customer before finalising the decision.
