Customer studying a school-based apprenticeship in plumbing

John is 16 years old and is studying a school-based apprenticeship in plumbing. They are not entitled to any income support payments. Wednesday and Friday are spent on secondary school studies with the other comprising his plumber studies.

As John is undertaking secondary studies, they are considered a secondary student and therefore not entitled to a LIC. If his parents have a Health Care Card, their name will appear on their card as a dependant.

2

Customer is a fulltime university student living at home

Fiona is a 17 year old child who is a fulltime university student living at home. Fiona's parents are not entitled to FTB for Fiona because they are a tertiary student.

Although Fiona is dependent on their parents and is a full-time student, Fiona can claim LIC because they are not an FTB child.
