This document outlines information about the Forensic Psychology team, it’s services and referral process for customer forensic matters. These psychologists are highly professional and experienced consultants who have specialist knowledge in the practice of psychology and utilise their clinical skills in understanding human behaviour. Forensic Assessment Services
Psychologists in the Forensic Psychology team undertake a range of assessments to support vulnerable customers where:
- forensic history, behaviours and other vulnerabilities result in barriers to obtaining medical information (for ISP claim applications)
- the customer is not able to manage usual servicing arrangements as a result of complex and challenging behaviours
- the customer has been a victim of serious offending behaviour
- there are media or other sensitivities
Consultation services
Psychologists within the team also provide consultation/professional advice and support for Services Australia staff working with customers who have behavioural issues that may require an enhanced level of support.
Behavioural issues that the psychologists provide include:
- advice on managing customers who are:
- aggressive or vexatious
- threatening suicide or homicide intent
- psychological education and support for Services Australia staff working with difficult customers
- Note: group training may be available for Services Australia staff to build resilience, set professional boundaries, understand specific mental health and substance misuse issues and how these may impact on customer and staff behaviour.
