Events which may cause an FAA debt and waiver provisions

- was not eligible for the FAA payment
- received duplicate payments of FAA
- received FAA incorrectly as a result of misrepresenting their circumstances
- the amount of FAA has been incorrectly calculated
- another person has fraudulently obtained a payment of FAA

2 | ABSTUDY students ABSTUDY students may also incur debts where: - advance payments of FAA were made, and the student did not undertake the travel
- a penalty was charged by the travel providers for a 'no show' (i.e. when a booking had been arranged but the student did not undertake the travel)
- advance payments of FAA and/or AFB travel allowance were made, and the student did not provide details for the funds to be acquitted

1 | Fares Allowance (FAA) paid for under 16 boarding students The responsible payee is the parent/guardian as recorded on the ABSTUDY Payee/Debtor Details (EYPY) screen. |
2 | FAA or Away from Base (AFB) paid to the student The responsible payee is the student. |
3 | AFB paid as residential costs and fares to the tertiary education institution The responsible payee is the tertiary education institution. |
4 | FAA payment was obtained fraudulently The responsible payee is the person who applied for the payment (if paid to themselves, to another person or to an institution). |
