This document outlines assistance and services for families in addition to the main family payments and assistance. This can include programs and extra payments to target disadvantaged families.

Government intent

The government supports families and children through the provision of programs, services and payments.

Payments

Payments under the Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) Scheme provide help with the cost of schooling. Carer Allowance (CA) is also available to carers of a child with a disability.

Participation

Assistance is available to help parents return to work, overcome prevocational barriers to employment and increase their level of participation in the community. Young parents are assisted to complete their education.

Parent Pathways

Eligible Parenting Payment (PP), Carer Payment (CP) and Special Benefit (SpB) customers can volunteer for Parent Pathways. This service offers flexible and individualised support to parents with children under the age of 6 plan for or pursue their study, training and work goals.
