We are unable to assess your paper claim for Parental Leave Pay as the rules are changing from 1 July 2023.

You can claim Parental Leave Pay before your baby’s <due date/entry to your care> by claiming online.

Sign into your myGov account and select your Centrelink online account. If you don’t have a myGov account, create one and link it to your Centrelink online account.

If you are unable to claim online you will need to wait and claim Parental Leave Pay after your child is <born/comes into your care>.

Jane lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant for a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023.

Information provided by Jane within the PPL pre-claim:

  • PPL period Nominated Start Date (NSD) will be date of birth
  • Advised not to connect Flexible PPL days
  • No Flexible PPL days were nominated, leaving Jane 30 flexible days to use at a later date.
  • Jane will not be transferring any PPL to a secondary claimant

Claim has been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Alex was born on 3 July 2023 and Jane completes the Add Newborn Service on 10 July 2023.

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Alex was born after 1 July 2023, Jane’s PPL will be reassessed under the 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed then:

  • PPL period will be transitioned to PPL days:
    • The PPL period start date will become the first nominated PPL day of Monday 3 July 2023
    • The PPL period end date will become the last nominated PPL day of Friday 22 September 2023
  • As Jane is the primary claimant, Jane is deemed to be the Approval Giver
  • 40 days will remain available for Jane to access or share with another claimant, i.e. 30 remaining Flexible PPL days plus an additional 10 PPL days

Maree lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant for a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023. Maree is partnered to Geoff.

Information provided by Maree within the PPL pre-claim:

  • PPL period Nominated Start Date (NSD) will be date of birth
  • 30 Flexible PPL days nominated and connected to the PPL period
  • Maree will not be transferring any PPL to a secondary claimant

Claim has been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Timmy was born on 3 July 2023 and Maree completes the Add Newborn Service on 1 August 2023 (date of receipt is more than 28 days after Date of Birth).

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Timmy was born after 1 July 2023, Maree’s PPL will be reassessed under the 1 July 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed then:

  • PPL period and connected Flexible PPL days will be transitioned to PPL days:
    • The PPL period start date will become the first PPL day of 1 August 2023
    • 90 weekdays (60 PPL period days + 30 Connected Flexible PPL days) will be transitioned to PPL days from 01 August 2023, making the last payable PPL day 4 December 2023
  • As Maree is the primary claimant, Maree is deemed to be the Approval Giver
  • 10 additional PPL days will be available for Maree to share with Geoff or another claimant

Alice lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant for a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023. Alice is single.

Information provided by Alice within the PPL pre-claim:

  • PPL period Nominated Start Date (NSD) will be date of birth
  • 15 Flexible PPL days nominated and connected to the PPL period
  • 10 Flexible PPL days claimed from 01 December 2023 to 10 December 2023
  • Alice will not be transferring any PPL to a secondary claimant

Claim has been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Trevor was born on Saturday 2 July 2023 and Alice completes the Add Newborn service on 10 July 2023.

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Trevor was born after 1 July 2023, Alice’s PPL will be reassessed under the 1 July 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed then:

  • PPL period and connected Flexible PPL days will be transitioned to PPL days:
    • The PPL period start date will transition to become the first PPL day of Monday 3 July 2023.
    • The last payable PPL day will be 13 October 2023 (75 PPL days weekdays) i.e. 60 PPL period days + 15 Connected days
    • 10 nominated Flexible PPL days will be directly transitioned to PPL days from 1 December 2023 to 10 December 2023
  • As Alice is the primary claimant, Alice is deemed to be the Approval Giver
  • 15 days will remain available for Alice to access or share with another claimant, i.e., 5 unclaimed Flexible PPL days plus an additional 10 PPL days

Leanne lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant for a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023. Leanne is married to Graham.

Information provided by Leanne within the PPL pre-claim:

  • PPL period Nominated Start Date (NSD) will be date of birth
  • 15 Flexible PPL days nominated and connected to the PPL period
  • 10 Flexible PPL days claimed from 01 December 2023 to 10 December 2023
  • Leanne has requested 5 Flexible PPL days are to be transferred to a secondary claimant, Graham.
  • Graham has claimed the 5 Flexible PPL days transferred to them

Both claims have been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Ryan was born on 3 July 2023 and Leanne completes the Add Newborn service on 10 July 2023.

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Ryan was born after 1 July 2023, Leanne’s PPL will be reassessed under the 1 July 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed then:

  • PPL period and connected Flexible PPL days will be transitioned to PPL days:
    • The PPL period start date will become the first PPL day of 3 July 2023.
    • The last payable PPL day will be 13 October 2023 (75 PPL days weekdays)
    • i.e. 60 PPL period days + 15 Connected days
    • 10 nominated Flexible PPL days will be directly transitioned to PPL days from 1 December 2023 to 10 December 2023
  • As Leanne is the Primary claimant, Leanne is deemed to be the Approval Giver
  • Flexible PPL days granted to a Graham won’t be assessed within the transition process and will remain available for the Approval Giver to grant to another claimant. This will result in 15 days being available for the Approval Giver to access or share with Graham or another claimant, i.e. 5 Flexible PPL days granted to the secondary claimant plus an additional 10 PPL days

Linda lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant for a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023. Linda is partnered to Daniel.

In Linda’s PPL pre-birth claim, Linda has requested to transfer of the full PPL period to Daniel.

Daniel has made a claim for the full PPL Period.

Both claims has been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Richie was born on Saturday 1 July 2023 and Linda completes the Add Newborn service on 10 July 2023.

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Richie was born after 1 July 2023, Linda’s PPL will be reassessed under the 1 July 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed then:

  • PPL days start date will be determined as Monday 03 July 2023 according to existing PPL rules
  • As Linda is the Primary claimant, Linda is deemed to be the Approval Giver.
  • As Linda has requested to transfer the full PPL period, 100 PPL days will remain available for Linda to access or share with Daniel or another claimant, i.e., 90 PPL days plus an additional 10 PPL days

Dianne lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant with a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023. Dianne is partnered to Rodney.

Information provided by Dianne within the PPL pre-claim:

  • Dianne wishes to claim 23 days of the PPL period which is to start on their child’s date of birth
  • Partially transfer the remaining PPL period (37 days) to Rodney

Rodney has made a claim for the 37 days remaining of the PPL period.

Both claims has been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Tyrone was born on Saturday 1 July 2023 and Dianne completes the Add Newborn Service on 10 July 2023.

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Tyrone was born after 1 July 2023, Dianne’s PPL will be reassessed under the 1 July 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed:

  • PPL days start date will be determined as Monday 03 July 2023 according to existing PPL rules
  • As Dianne is the Primary Claimant, Dianne is deemed to be the Approval Giver
  • As there is a transfer of the PPL period:
    • The last payable day of the PPL period for Dianne will be 2 August 2023:
    • PPL period days from 3 July 2023 to 2 August 2023 will be transitioned to PPL days.
  • As Dianne did not nominate any Flexible days 77 PPL days will remain available for Dianne to access or share with Rodney or another claimant. 77 days are made up of:
    • 37 PPL days that were meant for Rodney to claim
    • 30 flexible PPL days
    • plus an additional 10 PPL days

Kate lodges a PPL pre-birth claim as a primary claimant a child with an expected date of birth of 29 June 2023. Kate is partnered to Mike.

Information provided by Kate within the PPL pre-claim:

  • PPL period to start on their child’s date of birth. 60 weekdays with an expected end date of 20 September 2023
  • Flexible days are claimed for 25 September 2023 to 29 September 2023
  • Kate will not be transferring any PPL to a secondary claimant

Claim has been assessed Pending Proof of Birth.

Hugo was born on 5 July 2023 and Kate completes the Add Newborn service on 10 July 2023.

As PPL pre claim was originally assessed under the Flexible PPL scheme but Hugo was born after 1 July 2023, Kate’s PPL will be reassessed under the 1 July 2023 PPL scheme.

Once PPL reassessment is completed:

  • PPL period will be transitioned to PPL days:
    • The first PPL day will be 5 July 2023
    • The last PPL day will be 26 September 2023, 60 weekdays from the first PPL day
  • As Kate is the primary claimant, Kate is deemed to be the Approval Giver
  • Any Flexible days will be transitioned to PPL days:
    • 25 September 2023 and 26 September 2023 will not be transferred as these days overlap with nominated PPL days. These days will remain available for Kate to access or share with another claimant
    • 27 September 2023 to 29 September 2023 will be transitioned to PPL days
  • Kate has claimed 63 days and has 37 unclaimed PPL days remaining i.e. 27 PPL days and an additional 10 days to share with Mike or another claimant
