Example

Customer receives an inheritance, which is invested on day 9 of their payment cycle. Customer is receiving $10.00/day in investment income, and has no other income. Customer has received $60.00 in TOI for the fortnight, but will accrue Working Credit for the first 8 days of the fortnight.

A customer transfers from one social security pension or benefit that has access to Working Credit to another payment that has access to Working Credit.

Unused Working Credit becomes new Working Credit opening balance.

Ceases to receive a social security pension or benefit

A customer ceases to receive a social security pension or benefit that has access to Working Credit, and after a break of no more than 12 months, recommences that payment or another that has access to Working Credit.

Unused Working Credit becomes new Working Credit opening balance.

Transfers from a social security pension or benefit to full-time student or Australian Apprentice

A customer transfers from a social security pension or benefit that has access to Working Credit and commences to receive Youth Allowance (YA), Austudy or ABSTUDY as a full-time student or Australian Apprentice and has access to Income Bank or Australian Apprentice income bank.

Unused Working Credit becomes the new Income Bank or Australian Apprentice income bank opening balance.

Access to Working Credit and after a break of no more than 12 months

A customer ceases to receive a social security pension or benefit that has access to Working Credit and after a break of no more than 12 months commences to receive YA, Austudy or ABSTUDY as a full-time student or Australian Apprentice and has access to Income Bank or Australian Apprentice income bank.

Unused Working Credit becomes new Income Bank or Australian Apprentice income bank opening balance.

Full-time student or Australian Apprentice customer transfers to a social security pension or benefit

A full-time student or Australian Apprentice YA, Austudy or ABSTUDY customer transfers to a social security pension or benefit that has access to Working Credit.

Unused Income Bank or Australian Apprentice income bank becomes new Working Credit opening balance, up to maximum of 1,000 Working Credits or 3,500 Working Credits for Youth Allowance (YA) (job seeker) customers.

Ceases payment and after a break of no more than 12 months commences a social security pension or benefit

A full-time student or Australian Apprentice YA, Austudy or ABSTUDY customer ceases payment and after a break of no more than 12 months commences a social security pension or benefit that has access to Working Credit.

Unused Income Bank or Australian Apprentice income bank becomes new Working Credit opening balance, up to a maximum of 1,000 Working Credits or 3,500 Working Credits for Youth Allowance (YA) (job seeker) customers.

  • The customer requires an active Centrelink online account to view their Working Credit balance.

Service Officer action:

  • Advise customer to:
    • Sign in to their myGov account and select Centrelink
    • Select Payments and Claims > Manage payments > My payments to view the current Working Credit balance
