Continuity of schooling concession scenarios

Item

Details

1

Living in a second family home and both parents now live in the second home

The second family home becomes the principal family home from the date both parents begin to live in the second family home on a permanent basis. Continuity of schooling concession applies until the end of the year (or end of second year for Year 11 students) when the student remains:

  • living in the second home, and
  • enrolled in the same school

Note: when a separated, or sole parent, moves permanently into the second home, the same concessions may apply. Section 5.3.5, Loss of parent from the guidelines is under review, please escalate these cases via LPS to SSO for referral to Level 2 helpdesk for approval.

2

Student no longer boarding and continues to attend same school when the family moves closer to the school

The student's family has now moved closer to the school and the student is:

  • still enrolled at the same school, and
  • no longer boarding away from home

As the student has changed their living arrangements their eligibility for the allowance has ceased. This student no longer qualifies for a continuity of schooling concession.

3

Student with special needs returns to attending the same school on a daily full-time basis when their condition improves

The student's special needs have improved and the student:

  • is no longer studying at home, and
  • has returned to daily classes at the same school

The student has had a change in their living arrangements as they are no longer studying at home. This change means they have lost eligibility for the allowance they were being paid and they do not qualify for the continuity of schooling concession.
