Australian Apprentices 28 day rule for changing employers Jackie gets Youth Allowance as an apprentice. On 17 November 2023 Jackie reports nil employment income online. The report fails as Jackie is an apprentice and is expected to have income. Jackie is advised to contact. Jackie tells Services Australia they stopped working with their apprentice employer on 1 November 2023. Jackie also hopes to continue their apprenticeship with another employer as soon as possible and has applied for several jobs with other apprentice employers. Jackie reports nil income again on their next reporting day which is 1 December 2023. Jackie tells the agency that they have not been able to get employment with a new apprentice employer. As Jackie intended to continue their apprenticeship within 28 days of ceasing work with their previous employer, and their Commonwealth Registration Number is current, Jackie is entitled to receive Youth Allowance as an apprentice up until 1 December 2023. Jackie is under 22, and actively looking for work. As Jackie has contacted in the entitlement period after the allowable 28 day period has passed, Jackie can be registered as a job seeker and remain on Youth Allowance. If Jackie did not contact in the entitlement period after the allowable 28 day period, Jackie’s Youth Allowance would be cancelled as of 1 December 2023. Jackie would need to lodge a new claim. |
