Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures 277-02040000
This page contains details of CPI figures for each financial year since 1987/1988. For information on how to apply the figures to calculate inflation adjustments for child support payments, see Inflation adjustment (CS).
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reviews its indexes on a regular basis and performs maintenance such as re-referencing and re-weighting to maintain the quality of its statistics.
In September 2012, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) re-referenced the CPI figures, setting the index base to 100.0 for the reference period 2011-12. For example, the CPI for Sydney in September 2012 was 102.2 and in September 2011 it was 178.8. The ABS also published conversion factors to allow the figures using the new index reference period to be converted to figures that are consistent with figures published before the re-referencing.
In December 2025, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) re-referenced the CPI figures, setting the index base to 100.0 for the reference period September 2025. For example, the CPI in December 2025 was 100.32, and in December 2024 it was 139.4. The figures are now to 2 decimal places whereas previous figures were to 1 decimal point. The ABS also published conversion factors to allow the figures using the new reference period to be converted to figures that are consistent with figures before the re-referencing.
CPI figures in Cuba
From September 2012, the ABS published values have been divided by the 2011-12 ABS conversion factor to make them comparable to the values stored in Cuba for previous years and avoid anomalous results.
With the re-referencing from September 2025, to continue the compatibility with the rates stored in Cuba, from December 2025 the ABS published values have first been divided by the 2025 ABS conversion factor to convert them to the 2011-12 reference period.
Therefore, from September 2012 the CPI figures below are the converted figures used in Cuba.
Note: Child Support Guide 2.3.2 Current formula values only lists the CPI values as published by the ABS.
For help applying a CPI change or if a parent raises concerns about the use of converted figures, seek help from a Service Support Officer.
