Scenarios

Scenario

Example

1

Student turns 16 years of age prior to school commencing in Term 1

Sally was granted ABSTUDY Schooling A award from 1 January but was cancelled from 7 January as Sally turned 16 years of age. Sally commenced Year 10 on 30 January. As Sally had eligibility for at least one day of Schooling A Award and commenced study in the same academic year, Sally is eligible for SFA (Group 1).

2

Unacceptable proof of payment for School Fees Allowance

Cedric is the applicant for ABSTUDY Schooling A award, and has requested reimbursement of SFA (Group 1). As proof of payment Cedric advises that Centrepay deductions have been made directly to the school.

Although this can be confirmed via Cedric’s record, Centrepay deductions are not evidence that the school has received payment of school fees. Therefore this is not considered proof of payment, and SFA (Group 1) cannot be paid to the applicant.

3

Proof of payment for School Fees Allowance

Cedric later provides receipts from the school showing that the school fees have been paid in full, and requests reimbursement of SFA (Group 1).

As receipts from the school are evidence that the school has received payment of school fees, this is considered proof of payment, and SFA (Group 1) can be paid to the applicant.
