They must advise which FAA journey this is (that is, from home to their institution at the start of the study year, return journey between the institution and home during the year, or from the institution to their permanent home at the end of the study year.) If the applicant travelled by public transport, they need to complete questions 11 - 14, 16 and 17 and provide evidence of the journey (for example tickets, dockets etc.) If no evidence is available, they need to explain why. Eligible students who travelled by public transport will be reimbursed for the cheapest mode of public transport available for the journey, regardless of whether they used that method of travel or not. If the applicant travelled by private transport, they need to complete questions 15, 17, 19 - 20 which requests details of the vehicle (engine capacity and whether or not it is a rotary engine) and number of kilometres travelled. Eligible students who travelled by private transport will be paid a per-kilometre rate, depending on the size of the vehicle. A student may be eligible for FAA at the private transport rate in some cases, where public transport is available. The student must provide evidence they were required to travel by private transport due to reasons such as a medical condition, weather conditions, road closures or unavailability of public transport. FAA can also be paid at the private transport rate where it is not practicable for the student to use public transport to move significant volumes of living necessities or personal belongings, such as essential kitchenware and bedding, from their permanent home in order to undertake study. If the applicant travelled by taxi, they need to complete question 14 and provide evidence of the journey (for example tickets, dockets, receipts etc.) If no evidence is available, they need to explain why. If public transport was available for the journey, the person will be reimbursed only for the cost of the cheapest available public transport for that trip, even if they chose to travel by taxi. |
