Rejecting an Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) claim 010-25062314
This document outlines the reasons why Service Officers in an AIC Smart Centre Processing team may reject a claim for AIC.
Not eligible or withdrawal of claim for AIC
Reject an AIC claim if the applicant or customer does not meet:
- eligibility requirements
- isolation conditions, or
- an approved living arrangement qualification for payment of an AIC allowance
Applicants may withdraw their claims voluntarily or may have lodged an inappropriate or incorrect claim. Reject these claims. Note: only reject withdrawn AIC claims if they have already been determined. Claims not determined need to be cancelled.
For more details, see Withdrawal of claims.
Death of an applicant or student
AIC claims lodged before the death of an applicant or student need to be finalised and entitlements paid up to the date of death.
Unfavourable decisions
When making an unfavourable decision, speak to the customer to:
- explain the decision
- give them a chance to provide more information, and
- tell them of their review and appeal rights
