Is the person requesting the Unverified Payments (Letter U) 14 years of age or older?

  • Yes, go to Step 2
  • No, persons younger than 14 years of age are unable to request a Letter U. Only the family contact or spouse/partner can request a letter for a child dependant under 14 years of age (the Subject). Procedure ends here

Is the Requester part of the Medicare Safety Net (MSN) family?

  • Yes, go to Step 3
  • No, Letter U cannot be issued. Due to privacy requirements, a request may need to be made to the agency’s Release of Information section. Where the letter is requested to go to a person who is a third party and/or made by a parent or guardian who is not registered as part of the MSN family or the Subject is not on the same Medicare card as the requesting person, see Release of information for Medicare. Procedure ends here

  • Yes, the Service Officer needs to determine which family they wish to make the request for, go to Step 4
  • No, go to Step 4

From the list of Medicare Safety Net (MSN) family members with unverified payments, determine who the letter is for.

  • For the Requester themselves the Letter U can be requested. See the Issuing Letter U table
  • For another registered MSN family member, go to Step 5

Is this Medicare Safety Net (MSN) family member 14 years or older?

  • Yes, the Letter U can be requested and will be addressed to the family member i.e. the Subject. See the Issuing Letter U table.
  • No, go to Step 6

Is the Subject and Requester on the same Medicare card?

  • Yes, request Letter U for Subject at CARD level to be sent to Requester. See Step 1 of Issuing Letter U table
  • No, Letter U cannot be issued. Due to privacy requirements, a request may need to be made to the agency’s Release of Information selection. Where the letter is requested to go to a person who is a third party and/or made by a parent or guardian who is not registered as part of the Medicare Safety Net (MSN) family or the Subject is not on the same Medicare card as the requesting person, see Release of information for Medicare. Procedure ends here

A request for the Unverified Payments (Letter U) is actioned via the Consumer Directory Maintenance System (CDMS).

Letter U will provide a list of the unverified payments for an individual or member/s of a registered Medicare Safety Net family.

Access Amendment Search page + Read more ...

Once entitlement to the Unverified Payments (Letter U) has been established, log on to the Consumer Directory Maintenance System (CDMS).

For assistance, see Process tab in CDMS for Medicare.

On the CDMS Home page, select the Amend Consumer Details.

The Amendment Search screen will be displayed.

Service Officers can search for a Medicare Safety Net record (individual or family) by:

  • Program drop down box, select Medicare Safety Net
  • ID Number: field, enter reference details e.g. Medicare number, Consumer ID, Medicare Personal Identification Number (PIN) or Family ID
  • ID Number Type drop down box, enter the ID number type used as the identifier of an individual member or the family Safety Net registration. The options are:
    • Medicare Card Number, or
    • Consumer ID, or
    • Medicare Personal Identification Number (PIN), or
    • Family ID
  • Safety Net Year drop down box, select the Safety Net Year
  • Click on the Entitlement button

The Amend Medicare Safety Net Details page will be displayed.

Consumer ID or Medicare PIN search - where the consumer ID or Medicare PIN is used and the consumer is on a Medicare card with other consumers, the Amend Medicare Safety Net Amendment Search Results page will be returned.

Medicare Card search - where the Medicare Card is used or the person is the only person listed on a Medicare card the Safety Net Amendment Search page will be returned.

No exact match found - if the consumer’s details (name, DOB etc.) are used to search for a person and an exact match is not found, the system will display a list of possible.

Select individual or family member + Read more ...

Select the specific individual or family member details.

If the person is not a member of a Medicare Safety Net family:

  • Click on the radio button next to the consumer’s name. The person selected will be considered the letter Requester. Go to Step 5

If the person is a member of a Medicare Safety Net family:

  • Click on the radio button next to consumer’s name. Select the family member the letter request is for (the Subject)
  • Click the Continue button
  • The Amend Medicare Safety Net Details page will be displayed. Go to Step 5

  • Select Letter Details tab
  • Click the Request Letter button

The Request Medicare Safety Net Letters page will display.

Request Medicare Safety Net Letter page + Read more ...

From drop down boxes, select:

  • Channel, select the appropriate contact channel:
    • Face to Face
    • Phone
    • Manual (form)
  • Letter Type, select Letter U
  • Requester, select the person making request. Note: only family members 14 years and over will be displayed
  • Select the Subject. If family exists, select the members. Note: only one member can be selected at one time
  • Where the Subject is a child dependant - enter Medicare number of Subject, this must be the same as the Requester
  • Click on the Request Letter button
  • Repeat this for each family member

If no registered MSN family exists the Requester and the Subject will be the same person

The Amend Medicare Safety Net Details page will display.
