Cancellation of a Low Income Health Care Card (LIC) 101-06040100
This document outlines how to cancel a customer’s LIC entitlement.
Automatic or manual cancellation
Many benefits can be cancelled automatically or manually:
- automatic cancellation may occur following reassessments where no continuing entitlement exists. For example, income precludes entitlement
- manual cancellation may be required when a customer:
- requests cancellation of the card
- is imprisoned, or
- has failed to reply to correspondence or supply documents (including Automated Income Stream Reviews)
LIC cannot be suspended.
Unfavourable decisions
When making an unfavourable decision, speak to the customer:
- explain the decision
- give them a chance to provide more information, and
- advise their review and appeal rights
See Advising verbally of an unfavourable decision.
