Restoration of Parental Leave Pay (PPL) 007-09030030

This document outlines information about the restoration of Parental Leave Pay (PPL) when a customer's qualification for payment has been re-established.

Restoring PPL claim after cancellation

If PPL is cancelled and it has been established that the payment should not have been cancelled, it can be restored without the need to reclaim.

For children born or adopted before 1 July 2023, PPL claims with a cancellation reason end of payment - EOP cannot be restored.

For children born or adopted on or after 1 July 2023, PPL claims with a cancellation reason end of payment – EOP can be reassessed by specialist staff when a customer contacts to advise they weren’t eligible to a previously paid PPL day. For example the customer worked on the nominated day. Note: only selected staff have access to restore and reopen these claims.

A PPL claim may have been cancelled at the customer's request or as a result of:

  • changes in the customer's circumstances
  • a review of a Centrelink decision
  • the customer not providing information as requested

Generally, PPL may be restored from the date it was cancelled if the customer was eligible from that date. If there have been changes in the customer's circumstances these must be recorded before restoration.

In some instances, it may be appropriate to reassess the customers PPL. This can only be completed when the PPL benefit status of CUR/CZR or ASS. If the customers PPL has cancelled, a refresh activity (RSH coded on PPL Claim Action (P1CA) screen) should be coded instead of a manual reassessment. Complete the RSH activity in Customer First.

The Resources page contains an example of the restoration of payments as a result of a review of a decision.
