This table contains an example of using the Income Test to work out a customer's pension rate. Note: these amounts are examples only and do not reflect current rates. For current payments, see Rates and thresholds.

Single pensioner

Apply any relevant Working Credit or Work Bonus reductions before applying the income test.

This example assumes no relevant employment income and no direct deductions:

Total ordinary income of $15,500 pa

Income free area = $5,876 pa

Excess income = $15,500 - $5,876 = $9,624 pa

Income reduction = $9,624 x 0.5 = $4812.00 pa

Maximum annual pension rate less reduction = $31,223.40 - $4,812.00 = $26411.40 pa

Fortnightly pension rate = $26,411.40 / 26 = $1,015.82
