Selection or allocation of a Workforce Australia provider

This table describes a list of reasons for selecting a Workforce Australia provider with no immediate appointments.

Item

Description

1

Mutual obligation requirements exemption

Where the job seeker has a current exemption which ends more than 3 days in the future there is no requirement to select an appointment based on availability as the appointment is always going to be after 3 days in the future. This option should only be used where the exemption ends between 3 days' time and 6 weeks in the future and a referral is needed. An appointment should be selected for exemption end date plus one day unless the Service Officer thinks the exemption is likely to be extended. The Exemption End date is transmitted to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

2

Current approved activity

This reason is to be used only where attendance at an approved activity would prevent attendance at Workforce Australia in the next 3 days. This means the pool of potential Workforce Australia providers is greater. Ensure the Activity and Exemption Summary (AEX) screen is updated for JSP or YA job seekers.

If none of the above applies, note on Additional requirements field when booking the appointment so the Workforce Australia provider knows why, consistent with privacy principles.

3

Customer choice

Whilst job seekers should be encouraged to choose a Workforce Australia provider with immediate appointments, customer choice still applies. Customer choice may be governed by factors such as:

If the job seeker is subject to RapidConnect, they need to be advised that selecting a later appointment may delay their payment start date.

4

Interpreter required

Regardless of the Workforce Australia provider chosen, the appointment needs to be more than 3 days in the future, because the interpreter must be arranged by Workforce Australia. Ensure an interpreter flag is recorded in customer details and include notes in Additional requirements field when booking appointment.

5

Workforce Australia provider has reduced servicing

Job seeker wants this provider and it is known that they only offer reduced servicing, for example, one day a week outreach.

6

Job Seeker Incident Report (JSIR) with other Employment Services Providers

Job seeker exited from other Employment Services Providers due to JSIR.

7

Local public holiday

The Online Appointment System recognises national holidays. However, it does not recognise local holidays in each State. Service Officers need to use their own judgement when selecting a Workforce Australia provider with no immediate appointments over a holiday period.

8

Needs disability access

The Workforce Australia provider is known to have disability or special access which the job seeker requires. Ensure any special needs are recorded on the Additional requirements field if warranted and the customer agrees. Privacy principles apply.

9

No appointments to match criteria

This reason will be automatically set by the system when all Workforce Australia providers matching the job seeker's criteria have no available appointments. Alternatively refine the search to look for Workforce Australia providers that are out of the area in an effort to find one that has an earlier appointment.

10

Other Workforce Australia providers closed for service

Other Workforce Australia providers mapped to the job seeker are known to be closed for service. This may be despite displaying as open in the online diary, for example school holidays, flood, and disaster. Temporary or permanent closure can be confirmed with DEWR.

11

Transport difficulties

This reason is used where other available Workforce Australia providers are not serviced by public transport, or the job seeker's usual means of transport restricts selection.
