Child Override/Claim (CHOC) screen 102-05050140
This document outlines how the Child Override/Claim (CHOC) screen is used to insert, correct or delete details for a child to correctly assess a customer's entitlement to payments and services in relation to the child.
Recording information on the CHOC screen
Details may need to be recorded on the CHOC screen for each child to make sure that:
- the child is included or excluded in the assessment of the customer's entitlement for the payment
- the customer is paid the correct rate of payment, for example: family assistance payments
- Parenting Payment Single (PPS) customers who are no longer the principal carer of a child are cancelled or assessed correctly. Note: this is only required for care changes with a DOV prior to 2 March 2024
- the child will appear on the customer's Health Care Card (HCC) or Pensioner Concession Card (PCC)
Recording claim line (CLM) on the CHOC screen will not necessarily mean that the customer will be eligible for the child. This depends on other child circumstances recorded, including shared care, age of child, and student details.
The CHOC screen may also be used to override child eligibility.
SSC screen/shared care table, ‘shared care percentage’ and ‘principal carer indicator’ must be updated for all income support payments when determining principal carer status. For single JobSeeker Payment (JSP), Youth Allowance (YA) (job seeker) and Special Benefit (SpB) customers, coding of the principal carer determination on the SSC screen/shared care table will automatically update the customers principal carer status on the PCCD screen.
Two new CHOC override codes have been created:
- PCY (principal carer YES)
- PCN (principal carer NO)
These codes override the principal carer coding of a child on the SSC screen/shared care table. PCY and PCN should only be applied in very limited circumstances (such as where there are more than 2 carers).
