PES, ABSTUDY PES or AIC PES student commencing or returning to work

This table describes the steps to follow when a customer in receipt of PES, ABSTUDY PES or AIC PES commences or returns to work.

Obtain the following details from the student, or the AIC applicant in the case of the AIC PES student:

  • Date of commencement of employment
  • If applicable, the last date that full-time or 25% concessional study load study was undertaken or enrolled (whichever is the earlier)

Check whether the customer or student's work or level of income will affect their eligibility for their PES or ABSTUDY PES qualifying payment.

For payments paid under the Veteran's Entitlement Act, the customer will need to provide evidence of their continuing entitlement to their PES or ABSTUDY PES qualifying payment (e.g. letter from the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).

Note: Parenting Payment Single and Disability Support Pension are the only qualifying payments for AIC PES.

  • Code the customer's income from earnings on the Employment Income Details (EAN) screen. See Recording and correcting employment income details and choose the procedure which is appropriate the type of benefit, pension or allowance and the type of earnings.
  • Advise them to contact within 14 days if there is any change in their circumstances
  • Record detail of employment and earnings on a DOC

When the student's PES, ABSTUDY PES or AIC PES qualifying payment is cancelled, PES, ASTUDY PES or AIC PES payments should cancel automatically. Note: if for any reason this does not occur, cancel the customer's PES payment manually.
