Meeting mutual obligation requirements
The amount of $24.10 per hour used below for the national minimum wage is based on the rate as of 1st July 2024 and is for illustration purposes only. This is the base rate for adult employees in the national system who are award free. It may be substituted for people in occupations covered by an award which provides a rate of pay which is lower than the national minimum wage or where junior/ trainee rates apply.
Check the Fair Work Commission's website for the latest national minimum wage when assessing a job seeker's circumstances.

Meets requirements through part-time work + Read more ... Julie has a 30 hour per fortnight mutual obligation requirement, as principal carer of a child under 16. Julie works 40 hours a fortnight in a shop and is paid $25 an hour. Julie is paid $1,000 a fortnight. The applicable hourly rate for Julie is above the national minimum wage. This means Julie will satisfy the sufficient work test by earning at least $723.00, which equals 30 hours at $24.10. As Julie's paid income exceed this requirement, and is working at least 30 hours in the fortnight, the sufficient work test is satisfied. |
