This document outlines the qualification requirements for customers claiming Pensioner Education Supplement (PES).
Qualification
Pensioner Education Supplement (PES) is paid in addition to the primary 'qualifying' payment to help with the ongoing costs associated with study.
To qualify for PES a student must meet all of the following:
- be receiving one of the qualifying payments for Pensioner Education Supplement (PES)
- satisfy the residence requirements
- be of PES age (there is no maximum age limit for PES)
- be undertaking qualifying study
- have not completed a Masters or Doctorate degree or qualification
Note: there are extra criteria to consider when determining whether a customer will be eligible to receive PES for a 25% concessional study load.
Consolidated processing of PES activities
PES processing has been consolidated nationally and claims are processed by the Student Network - PES Processing Service Centres. Search PES in Office Locator for details.
Pensioner Education Supplement (PES) including ABSTUDY PES is a supplementary payment paid in addition to the customers regular income support payment and as a result there is no urgent claim processing arrangement.
