  • Yes, go to Step 3
  • No, the student does not qualify for PES. Discuss other Centrelink payments the student may be eligible for. Procedure ends here

Does the student meet the basic qualifications for ABSTUDY?

ABSTUDY PES

The customer may qualify for ABSTUDY PES. Advise the student to lodge an ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement claim (SY020). The Resources page has a link to this form.

If an ABSTUDY PES claim has been lodged, refer to Assessing ABSTUDY Pensioner Education Supplement (PES) claims.

If an ABSTUDY Incidentals Allowance claim has been lodged, refer to Processing an ABSTUDY claim.

PES requirements

Does the student meet all of the below requirements?:

Note: there are extra criteria to consider when determining whether a customer will be eligible to receive PES for a 25% concessional study load.

  • Yes, go to Step 6
  • No, the student does not qualify for PES. Procedure ends here

The student qualifies for PES

Tell the student about claim lodgement options:

  • Online claim using their Centrelink online account
  • Verbal claim via Assisted Customer Claim (ACC), or
  • Via paper claim form (SY004) using:
    • a Claim for Pensioner Education Supplement (SY004), or
    • if reclaiming within 52 weeks of last receiving PES, the Information required for continuation of Pensioner Education Supplement or ABSTUDY (SY075M) as an abridged claim
