Examples of AIC Term Instalment Periods

Table 2

Example

Description

1

14th day

Queensland Term 1 start date is 28 January.

  • Day 1 is 28 January
  • Day 14 is 10 February

2

Home schooling Term 1

Ernesto is home schooled in QLD; Term 1 start date is 28 January.

Ernesto is eligible for AIC and is registered for home schooling on 9 February (13th day of Term 1).

This is within 14 days of the start of first term.

AIC is payable from 1 January.

3

Home schooling Term 2

Jaimee is eligible for AIC and is registered for home schooling on 17 April.

This is during the vacation period and before the start of Term 2 on 23 April.

AIC is payable from 1 April.

This is because:

  • Jaimee is registered no later than the 14th day after the start of Term 2
  • 1 April is the term instalment start date for Term 2

4

Late start

Helga is eligible for AIC and starts distance education studies in the middle of Term 2.

This is more than 14 days from the start of Term 2.

AIC is only payable from Helga's actual distance education start date.

5

Concession for late start

Rayner is eligible for AIC and is boarding privately.

Rayner:

  • starts study on the first day of the school term, that is, on 28 January
  • does not start boarding until 11 February

As this is more than 14 days from the start of the term, the AIC start date would normally be 11 February.

Rayner's applicant advises that Rayner:

  • could not start their boarding on time due to the board provider being ill
  • started boarding as soon as they were well enough

AIC could be paid from 1 January.

This is because:

  • the delay was due to unforeseen circumstances
  • the student started as soon as possible after those circumstances ceased

6

Boarding

Beau attends school in NSW; Term 3 start date is 21 July.

Beau is eligible for AIC and starts boarding at school on 21 July, that is, from the start of Term 3.

AIC is payable from 1 July (the start of the Term 3 instalment period).

This is because Beau has started on time.

7

Second home

Bonnie starts school in January, and is travelling a long distance to school each day.

Bonnie's family home meets the geographic isolation rules. Their family decide the travel is too much for Bonnie and they set up a second home in town from 15 March.

Bonnie's entitlement only starts from the date the second home was set up.

AIC start date will be 15 March.

This is because the second home was set up more than 14 days from the start date of the term.
