This document outlines information relating to Age Pension (Blind).
Age Pension (Blind)
A pension paid to an Age Pensioner who is permanently blind is commonly referred to as a 'Blind' Pension. However, there is no payment called 'Blind Pension'.
A customer can qualify for Age Pension (Blind) if they are qualified for an Age Pension and can be regarded as permanently blind.
Claiming Age Pension (Blind)
Customers not getting Age Pension, who want to be assessed for Age Pension (Blind), need to lodge a claim for Age Pension. See Claiming and re–claiming Age Pension.
Transfer to Age Pension (Blind)
Customers getting Age Pension can be transferred to Age Pension (Blind) without a claim if they meet the Social Security definition of permanent blindness. See Transferring to Age Pension (Blind).
Income and assets tests
Customer entitled to Age Pension (Blind) do not need to disclose their income and assets unless:
- they are claiming Rent Assistance (RA), or
- their partner is receiving or applying for a payment and an assessment of income and assets is needed to correctly assess the partner's rate of payment
Alternative letter formats
Customers in receipt of Age Pension (Blind) can choose to receive their Services Australia letters in an accessible format.
