Change of circumstances

A change in circumstances for AIC applicants and/or students can impact eligibility or rate of entitlement, therefore, care needs to be taken when making updates.

Rejected claim reassessment

If the applicant has supplied additional information or documents for a rejected claim to be reassessed, see Request to reassess a rejected claim.

Change in applicant and/or care arrangements

When there are any changes to an AIC applicant and/or care arrangements, specific processes are required. See Determining who can be the applicant for the Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC).

Death of an applicant

If an applicant dies, their death must be confirmed before any changes to payments or entitlements can be made. See Death of an applicant for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC).

Change of address

For any changes to an AIC applicant and/or student's address, see Change of address for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) applicants or students.

Study details change

When there is a change to the student's study details, including ceasing study, an update is required to determine correct AIC entitlement. See Study updates and coding for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) students.

Change in living arrangements

When an applicant advises a change to the students living arrangements (for example, changes to home address, boarding details, study method or term address), confirm the students current living arrangement on the Living Arrangement Details (EILA) screen. For:

Change in isolation condition

Where there may have been a change to the student's isolation condition, such as a change to their principal family home or supporting isolation information is not supplied, see Isolation conditions for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC).

Payment details change

Claiming another payment

If the student or applicant has lodged a claim for another payment while on AIC, see Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) transfers to and from another payment.

If the applicant has commenced receiving Rent Assistance (RA) for the second home address, and is receiving Second Home Allowance (SHA), see Cancellation or suspension of Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC).

Changes in income for the applicant

When an applicant commences or returns to full time work and the student is being assessed for Additional Boarding Allowance (ABA), this may impact the AIC entitlement.

Change in board and/or tuition fees

If a school or applicant advises there has been a change to the current fees for the student, see Eligibility for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) Boarding Allowance (BA/ABA).

Overseas travel

If an applicant advises they or the student will be going overseas for study or vacation, see Residence requirements for Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) to determine if AIC entitlement can continue.
