Eligibility and presumption of parentage (PoP) for a child support assessment 277-03010030

This document details the process for determining eligibility and PoP regarding an application for assessment.

Persons being assessed are the parents

The Registrar needs to be satisfied that the persons being assessed are the parents of the child.

First, establish the basis for parentage (parent to child relationship) because each have different presumption rules. Parent to child relationship include:

  • natural parents
  • surrogacy
  • adoption, or
  • artificial conception

The objective of Child Support is to work with customers to register eligible child support cases. Make appropriate contact with all parties before making a decision to refuse or accept an application.

Roles and responsibilities

The International team manages cases where one of the customers lives overseas.

New Customers Service Officer

  • conduct pre assessment interviews
  • gather information and evidence
  • make decisions on eligibility and presumption of parentage

Digitisation Solutions Support Service Officer

  • check documents before scanning
  • index correspondence to Cuba
  • categorise Child Support correspondence

Service Support Officer

  • provide advice about complex issues
  • support staff to make quality decisions
  • analyse and review supporting documents
