Assessing Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) claims 010-03020000

This document outlines the procedures for assessing Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) claims and supporting documents.

AIC claims and supporting documents

AIC allowances are available to help families of primary, secondary and certain tertiary students who are unable to attend an appropriate state school because of geographic isolation or special health-related or educational needs.

Applicants who want to claim AIC must submit a completed AIC claim, see Claiming Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC). Claims should be lodged with the required supporting documents as listed in the Notes section of the claim form and must be received by the relevant closing date.

Lodgement

Applicants can submit their claim and supporting documents using any of the following options:

  • A self service option is available for customers. Online - using the upload documents service
  • By post - using the reply paid address shown on the form and addressing the mail to 'Student Services'
  • In person - at a service centre, or in remote areas, with a Centrelink field officer or Agent

AIC processing

All AIC claims and forms are assessed by AIC Smart Centres. Staff in service centres can check AIC claims and forms for completeness and assess eligibility for other payments and services.
