This document explains how staff in Employer Services (ES) identify, investigate and action an STP update event.
Update event
An update event is a correction to a submission previously made to Child Support.
It can be made by:
- employers
- the Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
- Child Support
These corrections include:
- amendments to a previous financial year
- amendments to the current financial year
- updates where there has been no previous STP reporting
- other changes relating to an earlier submission
Employers must not make a downward adjustment without contacting Child Support for approval.
Roles and responsibilities
Service Officer
- Investigate and action STP update events
- Contact employers to confirm deduction information, where the update event information cannot be determined
Service Support Officer (SSO)
- Provide technical support to Services Officers to support understanding and how to action STP update events
- Refer STP update event issues to National ICS via Program Support Manager (PSM)
Program Support Manager (PSM)
- Analyse escalated issues and liaise with SSO, if required
